José Antonio Sauma is a Managing Director at Mesoamerica, where for over 20 years he has been working to help build purpose-driven companies and mobilizing capital to advance the development of the region.

Jose Antonio has been focused on structuring and managing private equity investments in high-impact sectors such as telecom, renewable power, infrastructure services, consumer goods, and agroindustry across Latin America. He also led many of the firm’s key mergers and acquisitions and advisory projects, across a variety of industries including banking, construction materials, and beverages.

Jose Antonio believes that by mobilizing entrepreneurial talent, capital, and local knowledge, and combining them with the expertise and technologies of global operators and management teams, Mesoamerica can continue to build companies that drive the necessary transformation of key sectors, and solve many of the region’s most pressing developmental needs.

In addition to serving on the Boards of most of Mesoamerica’s portfolio companies, he serves on the Board of Directors of Costa Rica’s Promotora de Comercio Exterior, the country’s national export promotion agency. Jose Antonio is also the Chairman of Yo Emprendedor, an organization dedicated to promoting entrepreneurial education programs, through public/private alliances. He is a Fellow of the Aspen Institute Global Leadership Network and the Central American Leadership Initiative. He has an MBA from INSEAD in France and Singapore and a business degree from Ithaca College in New York, with a Summa Cum Laude distinction.
