Alfredo joined Mesoamerica in May 2014 as head of all legal, tax, and compliance matters involving the firm, its private equity investment vehicles, and portfolio companies

Before joining Mesoamerica, Alfredo was Senior Tax Counsel and Head of Tax Strategy for Latin America and the Caribbean for American International Group Inc., based out of New York and Miami. For 3 years, he was in charge of providing strategic tax guidance to senior management (global and regional) and developing tax planning opportunities from a U.S. and local tax perspective for the Latin America region (15 countries). Alfredo also worked for 4 years as a Manager in the M&A Tax practice at Ernst & Young LLP’s New York office, where he led and managed global M&A tax structuring and due diligence projects, as well as corporate reorganizations, from a U.S. domestic and international tax perspective. Transactions encompassed multiple industries, including general manufacturing, utilities, pharma, telecom, banks, asset management firms, real estate investment trusts (REITs), and insurance companies. He also worked 3 years in the International Tax Services practice group at Ernst & Young Central America, based out of San Jose, Costa Rica, leading numerous cross-border structuring projects for Fortune 500 companies, PE funds and regional groups operating in financial services, retail, cable, telecom, pharmaceutical, and hospitality and real estate industries. Alfredo started his career at LLM Abogados (formerly known as Lara, Lopez, Matamoros, Rodriguez & Tinoco), one of the most prestigious law firms in Costa Rica, where he worked for 5 years, focusing mainly on Corporate, Banking, and Securities Law.

Alfredo is an attorney-at-law with over 15 years of professional experience in legal and tax matters in the U.S. and in Latin America; he has an LL.M. in International Taxation from NYU School of Law, and a J.D. (Licenciatura en Derecho) from the Universidad Escuela Libre de Derecho (San Jose, Costa Rica). Alfredo is licensed to practice law in the State of New York (NY State Bar) and in Costa Rica (Colegio de Abogados de Costa Rica). In 2016 was named in the 2016 GC Powerlist Central America.
